I Like to Cook

Approximate Date: December 12, 2010
Location: Our apartment; Mokpo, South Korea
Details: Becky makes Sangakkimbap (triangle shaped rice and seaweed sandwich)

Because I was a little impatient for the rice to cool, I took advantage of our window ledge and set the rice out in the snow.
I guess the best place to begin is by saying that Sangakkimbap is one of our favorite quick eats. It is basically a patty of rice with some type of topping and covered with Kim, seaweed, for easy eating. You can buy these at any corner mart like FamilyMart or Mini Stop for about ₩700 which is about 70 cents. Two, maybe three, of these and you are good to go!

For this first round I made two toppings: tuna seasoned with garlic, sesame seeds, soy sauce and pepper as well a kimchi topping seasoned with... well, nothing - it is a taste all its own.

Here is the packaging that you can buy at any store here. It has the kim wrapped in plastic so that it stays crisp until ready to eat. If you look close enough, it shows you how to open it - a brilliant technique first introduced by a Japanese.
First, fill rice into handy mold, about three quarters full.
Then add topping of choice to fill the mold.

And press way with the smoother device (not pictured).

Ah, kimchi. Isn't she pretty?

About three cups of rice, one can of tuna and one package of kimchi made eight tasty triangles.

This one looks a little sad, but it was my first attempt. My handiwork has improved greatly.
